COVID-19 Updates and Resources

Posted: August 23, 2021 — We can’t wait to welcome you to the fall semester on Wednesday, September 1st!  There is some important information we need to share with you so that you can start off the semester with success!

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS: NOW MANDATORY FOR STUDENTS TO ENGAGE IN IN-PERSON CLASSES & ACTIVITIES

On August 23, 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older. Students who plan to engage in person (e.g., in-person classes, activities and services) across all SUNY campuses, including FMCC, are required to verify full vaccination within 35 days or by September 27 2021 or submit and be approved for a qualified medical or religious exemption by the September 8, 2021 deadline.

You may present proof of vaccination to the Office of the Registrar, located in the Student Development Center.  Students may contact the Office of the Registrar at 518.736.3622, ext. 8141 with any questions or by email at registrar@fmcc.suny.edu

Students who are unable to complete the vaccination process by 9/26/2021 may apply for a temporary exemption. The Temporary Exemption Form must be filed with the Office of the Registrar no later than Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

High school students studying on the FMCC campus will be subject to vaccine and testing requirements as designated by New York State local health departments and guidelines provided by local school districts.

Students who do not show proof of full vaccine will be withdrawn from FM on Monday, 9/27/2021. Students who are withdrawn from the college due to non-compliance with the vaccination requirement will not be eligible for a refund of tuition and fees.  Please refer to the Tuition and Fees Refund Policy, at https://www.fmcc.edu/admissions/tuition-and-fees/

Exemptions

Medical.  A student may be exempt from vaccination if a physician certifies in writing that the immunization(s) may be detrimental to their health.  The Medical Exemption Form must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar no later than Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

Religious.  A student who holds genuine and sincere religious beliefs which are contrary to immunization may be exempt after submitting a statement to that effect.  The Religious Exemption Form must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar no later than Wednesday, September 8, 2021.  A committee review will determine if this exemption will be permitted.

COVID-19 Weekly Testing

Until you verify that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or if you are unvaccinated, or have approved exemptions, you are required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing.  Starting September 1, 2021 testing will be available on campus Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Room P-107, located in the Physical Education Building.

Fully vaccinated students and staff members who have submitted proof of vaccination are not required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing.

In-season student-athletes will be required to test weekly for COVID-19 regardless of vaccination status.

You may provide documentation of your negative COVID test results through your employer or other means.  Test must be from the previous 7 days.  Test results must be sent to Robin Towne at robin.towne@fmcc.suny.edu, prior to Friday of each week.

Any student or employee who has tested positive for COVID-19 does not need to report for testing within 90 days of the positive result.  If this applies to you, please provide documentation of a positive test to Robin Towne at robin.towne@fmcc.suny.edu.

Vaccine Clinics on Campus

COVID-19 vaccinations will be available to all students, faculty, and staff. First-dose vaccinations will be offered on the following dates and times:

August 31, September 1, September 2, September 3, September 7, September 8

11:30 a.m. – 1:30 a.m.

Physical Education Building, Room P-107

Help Keep our Community Safe: Face Masks Required Indoors

Effective August 30, 2021, FMCC is requiring mask wearing due to the increased transmission rate in our region.  In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations. This safety measure will remain in place until further notice.

  • Fully vaccinated students, faculty, and staff who are alone and not in a public or shared space may unmask.
  • Any in-person meetings or group activities in conference rooms or other indoor spaces should be conducted with everyone being masked—regardless of vaccination status.
  • When outdoors, everyone who is not fully vaccinated should wear a face mask on campus when physical distancing isn’t possible.
  • Faculty who are teaching may remove their face mask while lecturing if they maintain appropriate social distancing.

Verify Your COVID-19 Vaccination before September 27

  • With the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on August 23, 2021, SUNY and FMCC now require all students who plan to engage in person (e.g., in-person classes, activities and services) to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 27 to protect your health and safety.
  • The COVID-19 vaccination is now being treated like all other student immunization requirements and may require additional verification steps.
  • You are considered fully vaccinated: (1) two weeks after receiving the second dose in a two-dose COVID-19 series or (2) two weeks after receiving a single dose vaccine.
  • Please provide proof of vaccination (screenshot of vaccine card) to the Office of the Registrar, located in the Student Development Center or email it to registrar@fmcc.suny.edu. For more information, please contact the Office of the Registrar office at 518.736.3622, Ext. 8141.
  • Fully vaccinated students who have submitted proof of vaccination are not required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing.
