Start Your College Career at FM this Fall. #FuturesMadeHere

Posted: August 2, 2018 — Are you considering going to college but you don’t know where to start? The process is not difficult at all. All you need to do is contact the FM Admissions office. We can help every step of the way, from the application for admission to academic advising to your first day of class. The first step is to apply using the free online application form at FMCC.edu or stop in the Admissions office and apply. We can answer any questions you may have while you are filling out the application form. Once you have applied we only need an official  transcript of your grades from your high school for you to be accepted. In most cases your transcript can be faxed directly to the admissions office. If you did not graduate from high school but have a GED, this will be also acceptable for admission to the college.

FM has a policy of open enrollment which means that we do not require specific grades or SAT scores to be admitted. With a few exceptions (Nursing and Radiologic Technology Degree Programs) the college only requires a high school diploma or a GED to become a student. Once we have your transcript or GED we will accept you and the next step will be for you to come to our campus to complete a writing assessment (if required) to determine the English class that would meet your needs. This is a short essay that offers you a choice of topics to write about. It is not a test, at this point you have already been accepted. Once this is completed you will meet with an academic advisor to set up your course schedule. The next step is to attend your first day of college.

FM offers two year Associate Degree programs in Business, Computer Technology, Fine Arts,  Criminal Justice to name a few that only require a high school degree or GED to gain admission. All FM degrees are two year programs that either prepare you for the workplace or for transfer into a 4 year Bachelor degree program at many colleges. If you complete the Associate Degree program at FMCC you will, in most cases, be able to transfer into a 4 year program as a junior and will only need to complete two more years to obtain the Bachelor’s Degree.

We also offer programs where you can be accepted at FM and a four year college at the same time. In addition to the two year degree programs offered at FM, we also offer one year certificates that you may need to fulfill work requirements or to gain entry for employment. These include HVAC, Early Childhood, Business Application Specialist and others.

To review, the steps to enter are:

-Submit application and transcript

-Writing assessment (if required)

-Meet with Academic Advisor-class scheduling

-Attend college.

In addition, the FM Financial Aid office can guide you through the various financial aid programs you may qualify for.

That’s it. Take the step from considering college to actually attending. It is not as big a step as it may seem.  The fall semester begins on Wednesday, September 5 so there is still plenty of time to complete the easy steps to become a FM student in the fall.  We hope to hear from you soon!  You can stop in or call us at 518.736.3622, ext. 8301.
