English as a Second Language (ESL)

Fulton-Montgomery Community College offers a full-time Intensive English Language Program for students who need to improve their language ability before beginning a college degree or certificate program. The Language Program is also intended for those who want to study English for career or social purposes before returning to their countries. Students receive 20-25 hours of instruction each week. Prior to arrival to campus, a free English placement exam is given virtually which determines the necessary level of English study the student will need.

COMBINED ESL + Degree Program Admission

If the student intends to continue studies at the FMCC campus after ESL study, a single admission can be granted for the English Language Program and an academic degree or certificate program. Admission as a full-time student to an academic program is contingent on the successful completion of the ESL Program or satisfactory English Proficiency Tests scores such as TOEFL IBT, IELTS and the MET exams.  FMCC students will receive a discount from MET (Michigan English Test) -see the website for more details on this exam which you can take from home https://michiganassessment.org/i-am-a/test-takers/.  All exam scores reports must come directly from the testing companies. Our institution also recognizes placement scores from multiple other testing companies. Please contact intl@fmcc.suny.edu with questions.
