SherylSheryl’s life quote is “Love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Since arriving at FM in 1995, Sheryl has loved her work.  “The road to FM was filled with many careers and experiences,” she says.  “I have taught children from the ages of 6 months to eighty-something years.  In addition, I have worked in various non-education positions from aerospace to sales.

So, what drove me to the position of professor?  Actually, it was sitting in an elementary education class in my undergraduate studies.  I was being taught by a professor who hadn’t been in an elementary classroom, as a teacher.  I remember thinking, I could do a better job than this guy!  My classroom and life experiences have lead me to where I am today, and I must be doing a decent job of teaching future teachers.  I received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and have achieved full professorship.”

Sheryl says she is a strong proponent of FM; a proponent of quality education and is delighted that her daughter is a graduate of FM which she proudly confirms as her most rewarding college experience.

As the advisor to ECCHO (Early Childhood Club Helping Others), Sheryl has been honored to be a participant in the yearly activities held to raise funds for holiday families and other family support projects.  She has received the Bill Pierce Advisor of Excellence Award twice and says that the true reward is helping her students make a difference in the lives of others.

“Awards are on my “ego” wall, but the most rewarding recognition is watching my former students teach in their own classrooms,” exclaims Sheryl. “I have had the privilege of being a part of their lives from their freshman orientation to leading them into the gymnasium for graduation.”

Sheryl earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. in Early Childhood Education from The College of Saint Rose.  She is a certified trainer for Maltreatment Reporting and provides training to schools and childcare centers for professional development.

When Sheryl is not on-campus or out in the field observing, you may find her on the golf course or on a calm lake kayaking with her husband.
