James HinkleJim began his career at FM in 1996. Prior to becoming a college professor, Jim also held positions as a radio announcer in Ohio, newspaper reporter for both the Leader Herald and Schenectady Gazette, a public affairs specialist for Contel of New York, a communications area administrator for GTE, and executive director of Foothills Youth Services.

Jim now teaches courses in Radio Production, TV Production, Public Relations, and Speech. “What keeps me going in this profession is helping students realize that they can do so much more than they ever thought they could,” says Jim. “Like all teachers, I love to see the moment they come to that realization. It is then that real learning begins.”

At FM, Jim is Chair of the Commencement Speaker Committee; serves on the Academic Restructuring Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Grievance Committee for Academic Integrity. He also serves as the faculty representative on the College’s Foundation Board assisting with fundraising and special events of the College.

As Communications Club Advisor, Jim oversees that the Club provides the campus with the Gateway student print newspaper, Gateway Online newspaper, and the Gateway News, a newscast.

Through his Advanced TV Production class, Jim and his students produced a short instructional video for the Montgomery County Board of Elections. He is currently a member of the College Media Advisers; the Broadcast Educators Association; the Public Relations Society of America; and the Society for Professional Journalists. He has co-authored a book on the 100th anniversary of Nathan Littauer Hospital.

Jim earned a B.S. in Communication as a Radio-TV major from Ohio University and a M.S. in Journalism from Ohio University.
