FM HOSTS 27th ANNUAL REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ART EXHIBITION

The 27th Annual Regional High School Exhibition will be on display in Fulton-Montgomery Community College’s Perrella Gallery, 2805 State Highway 67, Johnstown, now through Thursday, April 19.  The exhibition has become an annual tradition to highlight the artistic achievements of young artists throughout the region in grades 9-12.

The exhibit this year includes 85 student works from 16 school districts within a 50-mile radius of the College. The annual exhibition was started in 1991 as a showcase for the visual arts produced by regional high schools. This exhibition soon became a yearly tradition with the exception of two years during the construction of the Arts and Communications building that now is the home to the Perrella Gallery.

A total of 389 works were submitted to the exhibition for judging. The judge for this year is regional artist Jean Tschanz-Egger, designer at the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery in Saratoga Springs. The works of art were selected from digital submissions, followed by Juror’s awards selections from the actual works after they were delivered to the Perrella Gallery. A wide variety of mediums were submitted including drawings, collage, painting, sculpture, photography, as well as video and digital photographs.

Participating schools were: Amsterdam, Bethlehem, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Broadalbin-Perth, Cobleskill- Richmondville, Mayfield, Mohonasen, Niskayuna Central, Shaker-North Colonie, Scotia Glenville, Gloversville, HFM BOCES, Johnstown PTECH, Schalmont, Wells Central, Canajoharie and home school.

Five Juror’s choice awards of $100 were selected by the Juror before the opening of the exhibition. Awards will be announced and presented at the closing reception on Thursday, April 19, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. A People’s Choice award will also will be presented at the conclusion of the exhibition based on ballots cast by exhibition visitors for their favorite piece.
