FM hosted a Smart Scholars Graduate Recognition Reception to recognize the first cohort of graduates of the Smart Scholars early college high school program. The Smart Scholars program is a New York State Education Department (NYSED) grant partnership between the Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) and FM to assist students who are low income and first in their families to attend college to earn college credits while in high school. Students also participate in the FM Liberty Partnership program and receive tutoring, mentoring and summer programming on the FM campus.
Twelve students were recognized for their achievements. The students collectively earned 400 college credits and an average grade point average of 2.97. All students are continuing their college education; eight will be finishing their degrees at FM and four will be transferring to other colleges including Hudson Valley Community College, SUNY Cobleskill, Sage College, and SUNY Plattsburgh.
Jonardy Anil earned the most college credits (40) and both Marilyn Rodriguez and Marieshellie Mora were inducted into PTK this spring.
