May 6, 2014 — FM held its annual artist’s reception on Friday, April 25, for the spring juried exhibition featuring art created by FM students. The exhibition marks the culmination of the academic year for student artists at FM and contains 48 works of art selected from 125 works submitted for judging by two external jurors. The jurors this year were: Paul Kant and Ellen Rea Panero, both regional artists. The jurors made the selections for the exhibition as well as selection of eight juror’s awards.
The exhibition features a broad selection of works created in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and multi-media works. “It truly shows a broad representation of our students’ creative abilities, from technical skills to creative conceptual pieces,” said Joel Chapin, Professor of Fine Arts and Director of the Perrella Gallery. The exhibition has become a popular annual tradition since it first began in 1992.
The winners of the juror’s awards, $50 each, were: Dominique Gravely for her acrylic painting (Summertime Sadness), Soo Yeoun Lee for her ball point pen drawing (Flying Memory), Alix Leo for her acrylic painting (Legos), Sarah Magistro for her photograph (Top Gear), Louis Pabon for his sculpture (Wrapped On Self), Tyler Schrader for his oil painting (Astral Projection), and Katerin Suero for her photograph (Flowers in the Darkness).
A “People’s Choice” award will be presented at the conclusion of the exhibition for the art work that receives the most ballot votes cast by viewer of the exhibition. The cash awards were sponsored by the Student Art Guild of FM.
The show will be on display in the College’s Perrella Gallery through Friday, May 9. Perrella Gallery hours are Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with extended evening hours until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday or by appointment. The Gallery is closed weekends and holidays.
