EMT Class Offered this Fall

July 30, 2013 — Fulton-Montgomery Community College will be sponsoring an EMT Original class starting on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corporation (JAVAC) building at 231 N. Perry Street, Johnstown. The course will run on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 9:30p.m., and will end with the New York State written exam on Thursday, February 20, 2014. The instructor will be Mark Hitchcock, FM’s EMS Program Coordinator and a Paramedic with many years experience.

IS5A (an introduction to hazardous materials), FIREFIGHTER ONE, or a Hazardous Material Awareness Course, plus ICS 100 (Incident Command System), NIMS (National Incident Management System) 700, and a valid CPR card are required to be on file with the instructor by December 9, 2013 to complete the course. The IS5A, ICS 100, and NIMS 700 courses are available online free at www.fema.gov.

There is a $40.00 deposit which is refundable after receiving a passing grade of 70 or above on the New York State written exam at the end of the course. If you belong to a fire department that has a New York State Agency Number or Ambulance Corporation, there is no cost for the course, except the deposit. The cost of the original course is $775.00 for students paying tuition. Students will be responsible for obtaining their own text book and work book.
