The month of November was designated as “Thank a Veteran Month” at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. On Friday, November 30, VFW Ladies Auxiliary representatives Belle Bruse and Kim White came to FM to publicly thank College administration, staff, and students for all of the College’s efforts with the “Housewares for Heroes” project, chaired by White.

Housewares for Heroes is an ongoing initiative with the goal of assisting local Veterans who had been homeless and have now found housing through the help of the Auxiliary. Donations of new or very gently used items were collected, and continue to be collected, through the College’s Student Activities Office. Needed items include bath towels, wash cloths, shower curtains, dish towels, dish sets, glasses, silverware, pan sets, sheet sets, blankets, pillows, lamps, kitchen tables/chairs, beds, dressers, and living room furniture.

The College also welcomed a new student club during the month of November, specifically for Veterans. “We are very excited to have a student club for our Veterans on campus. We (the College) appreciate the sacrifices and contributions these students have made to our country and we understand it’s a huge transition for them to enter college. It is now our job to serve them and see they have a successful college career,” said FM President Dr. Swanger.

FM will continue to partner with Bruse and White on the Housewares for Heroes project as well as with upcoming future projects to support our local Veterans.

To make a donation to the project or for further details, contact Student Activities Coordinator Gwen Ossenkop at (518) 736-FMCC (3622), ext. 8131.
