The 21st Annual Regional High School Art Exhibition will be on display in FM’s Perrella Gallery now through April 20th. The exhibition has become an annual tradition to highlight the artistic achievements of young artists throughout the region in grades 9-12.
This year’s exhibit includes 54 student works from 12 school districts within a 50-mile radius of the College. A total of 255 works were submitted to the exhibition for judging including drawings, collage, painting, sculpture, and photography as well as video and digital images. Participating schools included Amsterdam, Bethlehem, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Broadalbin-Perth, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Fonda-Fultonville, Gloversville, Guilderland, Niskayuna Central, Shaker-North Colonie, Scotia-Glenville and Wells High-Schools.
The judge for this year’s exhibition was Patricia Kay, a regional artist who resides in Galway, NY. Five Juror’s choice awards of $100.00 each were selected by Kay before the opening of the exhibition and awarded at the opening reception on April 5. The following awards were presented by Gallery Director and Fine Arts Professor Joel Chapin: Three-Dimensional Art Award to Lauren Corcuera, grade 11, a student of Ms. Van Wormer from Amsterdam HS; Drawing Award to Haley Albanese, grade 11, a student of Ms. Deming from Gloversville HS; Painting Award to Madeline DeBlock , grade 12, a student of Mr. Walrath, Niskayuna HS; Photography Award to Darian Quinn, grade 11, a student of Mr. Honiki, Niskayuna HS; Video Award to Ken Omiya, grade 12, a student of Mr. Honiki, Niskayuna HS. A People’s Choice Award will also will be awarded at the conclusion of the exhibition and will be based on ballots cast by exhibition visitors.
